Travel Diary : A Summer Escape - Penang Island (Malaysia)

My family decided to have a short holiday back in my mother's hometown in Penang Island.

It is just a short trip but we manage to visit some iconic places at the Island.

Batu Ferringhi Beach.

It is a famous beach area in Penang with lots of hotels and restaurant.
They is a lot of activity at this beach too, like parasailing, water ski, flying kites etc.

Don't expect to surf though because the waves are not very huge over here.

Strolling along the beach.

The Snake Temple

It is a temple filled with vipers but don't worry they don't harm.

Air Itam Dam

A short break along the Island journey with some tropical fruits.
There's a lot of durian trees along the Balik Pulau route.

The King of Fruits, Durian

Kek Lok Si Temple.

It is a well-known temple in Penang. In fact, it is one of the largest temple in Southeast Asia.

I was also able to try out many food in Penang Island, here are some food photos.

Kueh Chap

A broth of dark soy sauce with pig's intestine, pork and beancurd served with flat, broad rice sheets.

Penang Laksa. My favourite dish.

It is a sour fish-based broth served with thick rice noodles garnished with mint leaves, cucumbers, pineapples, lemongrass, prawn paste and torch ginger.

Popiah or Fresh Spring Rolls.
